Canadian freestyle skiers saddling up for Snow Rodeo

The Calgary Stampede may not be until July, but a different type of rodeo is in town and put on a show.

Set for its fifth installment in Calgary, this weekend’s 2025 Snow Rodeo FIS Freestyle Halfpipe World Cup will see many of the world’s best in freestyle skiing conquering the WinSport halfpipe.

The multi-day event begins with two days of training followed by qualifications on Friday. The men’s and women’s finals will be shown live on CBC at 7 p.m. on Saturday.

Parking and admission are free for anyone looking to catch an in-person glimpse of the high-flying skiers at Canada Olympic Park. Onsite food and beverage options will be available for purchase.

The long list of competitors includes a team of Canadians looking to pick up World Cup points in what is the fifth and final stop on the World Cup season. The halfpipe Crystal Globes for the overall season champion will be handed out this weekend.

The countdown is also officially underway to the 2026 Winter Olympic Games in Italy a year from now.

A pair of 2022 Olympians, Noah Bowman and Brendan Mackay, each make this weekend’s venue their high-performance home base.

Rachael Karker relocated from Ontario to utilize the WinSport facilities, while 22-year-old Andrew Longino was enrolled in ski programs at COP as a child and attended the National Sport School.

Twins Dylan and Evan Marineau are native Calgarians and participants of last year’s Snow Rodeo, as well.

Other Canadians expected to compete this weekend include Cassie Sharpe, Quincy Barr, Ethan Fernandes, Adam Fiselier, Amy Fraser, Dillan Glennie, Steven Kahnert, Ava Dittmer, Benjamin Lynch, Sascha Pedenko, Josh Podulsky, Cassie Sharpe, and Peter Verheyde. (This start list is subject to change).

A whole new host of adrenaline seekers will soon be breaking out their boots at COP for the second instalment of the Snow Rodeo. Snowboard halfpipe and slopestyle action will be on full display from Feb. 19-22.
