Snow Rodeo snowboarders ready to ride at WinSport
Feb 20, 2025
It’s time to break out the boards as this year’s Snow Rodeo snowboard event wraps up two weekends of spectacular competition.
Following last week’s ultra-successful freestyle halfpipe showcase, halfpipe and slopestyle snowboarding will take centre stage this weekend to wrap up the two-part FIS World Cup event.
Qualifying for the men’s and women’s halfpipe began Wednesday, before the chutes open for the slopestyle finals on Saturday (Feb. 22).
Among the world-renowned male snowboarders wrangling the WinSport slopes in the halfpipe competition are Calgary’s Lucas Briggs, Liam Gill and Ryan Vo, plus Toronto’s Kiran Pershad.
The female division consists of two Calgarians in 2022 Olympian Brooke D’Hondt and WinSport-trained Felicity Geremia, as well as the country’s top-ranked female halfpipe rider in Elizabeth Hosking.
The fifth and final snowboard halfpipe event of the 2024-25 season, the Crystal Globes for the top World Cup point totals will be handed out at the conclusion of the Snow Rodeo.
In the slopestyle discipline, Eli Bouchard, Liam Brearley, Keenan Demchuk, Laurent Ethier, Francis Jobin, Tosh Krauskopf, Mark McMorris, Cameron Spalding and Truth Smith will be the men representing the Red and White. McMorris is a three-time Olympic bronze medallist in the event while Spalding is currently considered the best there is.
As for the women, Laurie Blouin won silver at the 2018 Olympic Games, and sisters Amalia and Juliette Pelchat of Whistler, B.C. will be cruising down the course.
The Snow Rodeo is free to attend and will be shown live on CBC starting on Friday. Carve out some time to come watch the array of amazing athletes!
