Skate and Hockey | Know Before You Go

Welcome to ice programs at WinSport!  We’re excited to have you join us. Below are some details to make the most of your camp or program. Here's what you need to know before you go.

Rental Information:

We recommend bringing your own pair of skates and a CSA approved (ski/hockey) helmet. However, we do offer helmet and skate rentals (size and width can vary).

For women, skate sizing will be 2.5-3 sizes down from your shoe size.
For men,  skate sizing will be 1.5-2 sizes down from your shoe size.

 *All sizes may not be available due to skates being donation based*

Before You Arrive

Step 1: Complete your waiver during check-out

It is critical that you complete your waivers in advance of arrival.

TERMS OF CONTRACT

IMPORTANT – WAIVERS REQUIRED

A Release of Liability, Waiver of Claims, Assumption of Risks and Indemnity Agreement ("Waiver") must be completed prior to participation in WinSport’s Programs, Lessons, and Camps. If the Waiver is not completed, participation in the WinSport Program and access to WinSport’s facilities will not be permitted, and a refund will be provided.

The Waiver will be available for completion during the sales process, and a copy is available for preview below.

• Each adult participant must complete their own Waiver

• A Parent/guardian must complete the Waiver for their minor/child participants

PLEASE READ THE WAIVER CAREFULLY! By signing, you will waive or give up certain legal rights, including the right to sue for negligence, breach of contract, or breach of the Occupiers’ Liability Act or claim compensation following an accident.

Step 2: Plan what to wear/bring (Hockey/Ringette/Power Skating Programs)

Come with the following items for a successful experience:

  • CSA certified helmet with full face mask
  • Mouth guard (recommended)
  • Neck guard
  • Shoulder pads
  • Elbow pads
  • Hockey/ringette pants
  • Hockey/ringette gloves
  • Hockey/ringette stick
  • Athletic supporter
  • Shin pads
  • Hockey socks
  • Skates
  • Water bottled filled with water 
Step 2: Plan what to wear/bring (Off the Ice - Summer Camps)

Those participating in ice-focused summer camps will also need to be prepared for our off-ice activities. Please come prepared with:

  • Sunscreen
  • Hat
  • Sunglasses
  • Bug repellent
  • Rain jacket
  • Shorts and/or athletic pants (no skirts)
  • Socks
  • 1 change of clothes
  • Athletic shoes
  • Water bottle
  • Lunch & snacks
Step 2: Plan what to wear/bring (Learn to Skate)
  • CSA certified helmet (we recommend one with a full face mask - hockey or ringette)
  • Hockey or figure skates
  • Knee and elbow pads (recommended for those just learning)
  • Warm clothing in layers
  • Snow pants (recommended)
  • Winter gloves or mittens

 
When to Get Here

Please arrive a minimum of 15 minutes before the start of your program to complete check-in.

Where to Park

Parking is available outside the Markin MacPhail Centre next to the players' entrance. Additional parking is available next to the Canada Sports Hall of Fame.

Where to Go

On your first day, enter the Markin MacPhail Centre (arenas) and proceed to the Arena Services desk for check-in with the Skate & Hockey School team.

After the first day, please check the boards each day to see where to meet. Boards can be found in the lobby of the player entrance and by the elevators on the arena level. 


Sign in/Sign out

Learn to Skate:
Each session, parents and participants will sign in with their respective instructor and sign out with that same instructor at the end of each session. On the first day of the program, all parents/guardians are required to create a security code (a word or 4-digit pin) for sign out. If parent or guardian does not know their pin, they will not be permitted to sign their child out. (Please meet at level signs for sign in and sign out. No exceptions).

Hockey/Power Skating programs:
Sign in will take place at the Arena Service desk for each program, and sign out will be at a table by players' benches.

Instructors will have participants exit the ice using the far bench and parents will line up at the table to sign their child out. n the first day of the program, all parents/guardians are required to create a security code (a word or 4-digit pin) for sign out. If parent or guardian does not know their pin, they will not be permitted to sign their child out.

No child will be allowed to leave the instructor's duty of care until parent/guardian signs them out. No exceptions).
