FS6 - Snowboard Freestylers

Ages 8 - 17

Snowboard Freestylers program focus: Build upon freestyle and all-mountain fundamentals with a greater emphasis on skill development and technique.

Expand upon your freestyle snowboarding experience in the Freestylers program. This program is for snowboarders ages 8 to 17. Through the duration of the program, you will be introduced to the Advanced Terrain Park and Halfpipe and will receive continued coaching in the Intermediate Terrain Park.

Training sessions are 3 hours long and offer a structured approach to furthering the development of foundational and freestyle-specific skills. Athletes in the Freestylers program level are at the FUNdamentals level of Canada Snowboard’s Long-Term Athlete Development model (LTAD), progressing to the Learn to Train level.

• Sessions: Athletes can train once a week or more as needed! If you are looking to progress faster or train more frequently, you can register for as many sessions as you wish. Customize your schedule!
• Choosing the right level: Groups will be arranged according to age and ability level. This will occur during the first week of programs and throughout the season as needed.
• Duration: This program is offered in 11 and 15-week formats.

Program Goals

1. Fundamental Skills: Continued development of switch riding, snowboarding on steep slopes, and athletic position.
2. Terrain Exploration: Safely learn to navigate the jumps and features in the Advanced Terrain Park and learn control and line choice in the Halfpipe. Coaching will also include continued development on jumps, features and technique/line choice in the Intermediate Terrain Park.
3. Jump Techniques: Master the basics of jumps, including proper popping and takeoff, mid-air control, and safe landings.
4. Expanded coaching on tricks: Expand your bag of tricks to include multiple directions of spins, additional grabs, and new ways to approach boxes, under the guidance of our skilled coaches.
5. Safety Focus: Learning to manage risk is paramount in freestyle snowboarding. You will receive comprehensive instruction on proper progression, understanding terrain park etiquette, and personal well-being while having fun on the slopes.

Snowboarders should have the following skills, at minimum:

• Be able to confidently ride blue and progressing onto black terrain.
• Ability to carve on steep terrain.
• Completed our Freestyle Fundamentals program, or equivalent.
• Have received an introduction to small jumps and boxes equivalent to those in the Intermediate Terrain Park.

These Lessons will progress throughout the season starting with an introduction to freestyle skill development in our intermediate terrain park with the goal of skill progression to equip athletes to pilot our advanced terrain park. Please click below for further information.

Terms of Contract

IMPORTANT – WAIVER REQUIRED

A Release of Liability, Waiver of Claims, Assumption of Risks and Indemnity Agreement ("Waiver") must be completed prior to participation in WinSport’s Programs, Lessons, and Camps. If the applicable Waiver is not completed, participation in the WinSport Program, access to WinSport’s facilities will not be permitted, and a refund will be provided.

The Waiver will be available for completion during the sales process, and a copy is available for preview below.

• The Waiver will apply to all ski and snowboard activities and facility use, including without limitation all day ticket use, season pass use, all programs, camps and lessons during the 2024-25 season.
• Each adult participant must complete their own Waiver.
• A parent/guardian must complete the Waiver for their minor/child participant.

PLEASE READ THE WAIVER CAREFULLY! By signing, you will waive or give up certain legal rights, including the right to sue for negligence, breach of contract, or breach of the Occupiers’ Liability Act or claim compensation following an accident.

NO GUARANTEE OF CONDITIONS - We do not guarantee hill conditions, weather or other operating conditions including open terrain or lift operation.

NO FOOT TRAFFIC ALLOWED ON SKI HILL - For the safety of WinSport’s guests, there is no foot traffic allowed or on-hill viewing of winter lessons. Parents (including carpet-only ticket holders) are not allowed on snow without ski or snowboard equipment and a valid ticket/pass. Only persons with a valid ticket/pass who are skiing or snowboarding with appropriate equipment will be permitted on snow.

ENROLLMENT IS REVOCABLE WITHOUT REFUND IN THE EVENT OF MISCONDUCT. CANCELLATION OF ENROLLMENT AND REFUNDS ARE SUBJECT TO WINSPORT’S REFUND POLICY.
