Ages 6 - 14

Try Freestyle program focus: Get a taste of foundational freestyle skill development with a qualified coach and learn about terrain park safety.

Curious about freestyle skiing? Hitting features but not sticking the landings? Our Try Freestyle program offers young skiers a 2-day or 4-week introduction to freestyle skiing with expert coaching and guidance. Ideal for strong skiers, ages 6 to 14, who are already riding in the park or excited to start, this program ensures a structured environment for progressing skills and learning essential park safety. It’s a great choice for parents who want their kids to explore freestyle with the guidance of a qualified coach before committing to a longer program.

Training sessions are 2 hours long and offer a structured approach to developing foundational skills for freestyle and all-mountain skiing. Athletes in the Try Freestyle program are at the Active Start to the FUNdamentals level of Freestyle Canada’s Long-Term Athlete Development model (LTAD).

  • Choosing the right level: Groups will be arranged according to age and ability level. This will occur at the start of the first day and throughout the programs as needed.
  • Duration: This program is offered as 2-day holiday camps and a 4-week format.

Program Goals

  • Fundamental Skills: Hone your all-round skiing skills, including your athletic skiing position, edge control and introduction to riding switch. These skills are the building blocks for all your future freestyle endeavors.
  • Terrain Exploration: Discover new terrain with confidence. Gain the skills needed to approach boxes, jumps, rails, moguls and other features safely and effectively.
  • Jump Techniques: Athletes will be introduced to the basics of jumps, including proper popping and takeoff, mid-air control, and safe landings.
  • Introduction to Tricks: Athletes will be introduced to the basics of grabs, spins, spreads, and other beginner-level maneuvers under the guidance of our skilled coaches.
  • Safety Focus: Learning to manage risk is paramount in freestyle skiing. You will receive comprehensive instruction on proper progression, understanding terrain park etiquette, and personal well-being while having fun on the slopes.

  • Completed our Intermediate 4 Snow School program, or equivalent, before enrolling in this program.
  • Be able to confidently ride blue and progressing onto black terrain.
